TechFarms and SBDC Event Wrap-Up
Recently, TechFarms hosted the Florida Small Business Development Council, based out of the University of West Florida (FSBDC at UWF). Ayesha Haider, Associate Director of the SBDC (UWF), discussed how businesses can apply for Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Grants and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) Contracts.
The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs are highly competitive programs that encourage domestic small businesses to engage in Federal Research/Research and Development (R/R&D) with the potential for commercialization.
These programs allow inventors to hold intellectual property (IP) rights to their inventions while principal investigators (PI) control the process of commercialization.

Apple Universal Control Open for Testing
Apple recently released a new device sharing feature called Universal Control. This feature lets the operator use a single trackpad, mouse, and keyboard between multiple devices. Unlike screen-sharing, the devices will run their “individual respective operating systems” (Clover, 2022).
Universal Control allows you to sync more than one iMac, iPad, and MacBook at the same time. This effectively eliminates any need for things like Airdrop, Cloud Sharing, and Cable Transfers. Universal Control allows users to move their mouse or use the trackpad to drag between the devices. Although iPhones are not currently included, this feature seems to have been created with a business environment in mind so it makes sense that the smaller screens may not be considered practical enough to include at this time.  Universal Control is compatible with MacBook, iMac, Mac Mini, all iPad Pro models, Mac Studio and more. Click here to see the full list of devices and versions supported.
Tyndall Rebuild Project Underway
Tyndall Air Force Base was recently awarded a record-breaking contract as part of their Tyndall Rebuild Project. Construction will begin late this Summer.
The National Disaster Recovery division’s Tyndall Program Management Office is overseeing more than 40 new military construction projects spanning 12 zones. Supporting the 325th Fighter Wing and its F-35 Program Integration Office to deliver the strategic vision of Tyndall AFB as the Installation of the Future. The NDR division chief stated, “We’re leveraging cutting-edge technology to increase cybersecurity and perimeter defense, enhance base safety and equip Airmen to execute the missions of today and tomorrow.” Learn more about the “Base of the Future” and Tyndall Rebuild project here.
