SBIR/STTR: Funding Innovation on the Gulf Coast
Join TechFarms’ for lunch in our new facility as we host the Florida SBDC at UWF for SBIR/STTR: Funding Innovation on the Gulf Coast.

The Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) and Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs are highly competitive programs that encourage domestic small businesses to engage in Federal Research/Research and Development (R/R&D).

By including qualified small businesses in the nation’s R&D arena, high-tech innovation is stimulated, and the United States gains entrepreneurial spirit as it meets its specific research and development needs.

AUVSI Xponential 2022
Several TechFarms tenants recently attended this years’ AUVSI XPONENTIAL event in Orlando. This event is one of the world’s largest events covering unmanned vehicles including drones, robotics, and autonomous trucks. Here’s a look at one of this years’ exciting developments.
Censys Technologies’ Beyond Visual Line of Site UAV
Florida’s Censys Technologies displayed their Sentaero family of Visual Line of Site (VLOS) and BVLOS UAVs. According to the company’s CEO, Trevor Perrott, the Sentaero BVLOS UAV is a fixed-wing Vertical Takeoff and Landing (VTOL) vehicle capable of a wide range of applications including agriculture, mapping, search and rescue, pipeline monitoring, emergency response, infrastructure inspection and disaster relief. The UAV has a flight time of 1.5 hours and a range of 56 miles. Payloads are hot-swappable. The company helps commercial drone operators achieve FAA BVLOS waivers, and to its credit, has maintained a 100% approval rate thus far.
The company’s Sentourion mobile command center (MCC) is equipped with everything one needs to complete missions with maximum efficiency, comfort, and safety. The MCC can be customized with a variety of options including, power (AC/DC, solar panels, generator, battery charging), utility (work benches, shelving & lighting, storage), as well as options for computers, seating, and safety equipment. The MCC can be branded to customer’s needs with a full or partial wrap.
Anthony Heinz May Returns
Anthony Heinz May returns for another installation project in association with the Walton County Art’s Council. May was asked to participate in the expansion of Grayton Beach’s Underwater Museum of Art (UMA) in collaboration with both the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County (CAA) and South Walton Artificial Reef Association (SWARA). The purpose of the UMA is to create art that becomes marine habitats that help expand fishery populations. The UMA, the first underwater sculpture garden in the U.S., lies in a depth of 58-feet just 0.93 miles offshore of Grayton Beach State Park.

The purpose of the UMA is to create art that stimulates eco-tourism while also providing a much-needed habitat for marine life and fisheries. The underwater museum also provides an opportunity for marine scientists, wildlife management professionals, ecologists, and students to study marine life and measure the impact of artificial reef systems on the Gulf ecosystem.
May is one of the many artists who were asked to participate in the fourth UMA installation. The 2022 installation will join the 25 sculptures previously deployed offshore Grayton Beach State Park, further expanding the nation’s first permanent underwater museum. His sculpture, Fibonacci Conchousness, is a concrete conch shell design. The conch is made from a welded frame substrate of steel rods and wire mesh underneath layered concrete. Although his inspiration comes from the scarcity of conch shells along the Florida Panhandle, it is not illegal to take home any shells from Florida beaches as long as they don’t contain a living organism.
Inner Structure
Deployment of the 2022 UMA installation is slated for Summer. Visit UMAFL.org for more information on timeline and events surrounding UMA’s launch.
Member Spotlight
Last year we highlighted one of TechFarms’ youngest tenants and his feats at the International Science and Engineering Fair, as well as his win from Texas Instrument’s Invention Competition. As a Junior, Jonathan Walker placed 1st in both competitions.

At the International Science and Engineering Fair Walker’s win earned him a full ride to the Florida Institute of Technology (FIT). Citing from last year’s interview with Walker, he stated that, “receiving this full ride to FIT was merely an option for his college plans”. Now, in his senior year, Walker has demonstrated how true that statement really was.
Walker, now a Rutherford High School senior, has been accepted to every college he has applied to, a whopping 27 colleges! Among those colleges are several prestigious Ivy league schools, including Stanford, Harvard, Yale, and Duke. On top of that he has accumulated nearly 4 million dollars in scholarships. Walker is set on wanting to major in Electrical Engineering with a minor in Biomedical. He hopes to explore more into psychology as well and cinematic arts. Walker aims to make accessible technology for everyone including those with disabilities and wants to convey how technology connects humans.

While Walker has yet to make his decision, we are confident he has a bright future ahead of him. Before Walker heads off to college, we may be seeing him a lot more this summer at TechFarms. Stay tuned!
